Aer Arann Aircraft Flight Operations Manager

We are currently recruiting for the role of Flight Operations Manager, based at our head office in Dublin. Reporting to the Director of Operations & Technical, as an AOC post holder, the FOM is responsible for the overall management of the pilot group and Flight Operations department including administration and training. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional pilot with strong business acumen, and proven people, project and budget management success.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a Senior Flight Operations Management position.
  • Hold or have held a valid JAA ATPL.
  • Minimum of 3,000 hours PIC on large commercial aircraft.
  • Previous experience dealing with regulatory authorities and in depth knowledge of JAR.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to work as part of an integrated management team.
  • Ability to give clear direction within a developing organisation.
  • Experience in managing departmental budgets and control costs.
  • Experience in setting departmental goals, objectives and achieving set targets in a timely manner.
  • Experience in delivering projects and implementing company strategy within agreed timeframes and on budget.
  • Keen proven interest in continuous improvement and development of structures, processes and people.
  • Strong administration and organisational skills.
  • Experience within a regional airline turboprop environment preferable but not essential .


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Compliance within the Flight Operations Department with Company policy and legal requirements.
  • Lead a small administrative team in determining direction and continuous development of the Flight Operations Department.
  • Development and maintenance of procedures to ensure the safe and smooth operation of all company aircraft.
  • Ensure the structure and resources are in place to meet the needs of the operation and adequately comply with IAA requirements.
  • Take charge of the management of Company Flight and Cabin Crew through the Flight Operations management team.
  • Selection and recruitment of all flight crew in conjunction with Human Resources and the Head of Training. The appointment of any such crew shall be subject to the approval of the Accountable Manager.
  • Designation of Aircraft Commanders and Training personnel in consultation with the Head of Training.
  • Production of the Company’s Operations Manual, Flight Crew Instructions (FCI) and any variations thereof.
  • Development and checking of line standards across the fleet.
  • Overall supervision of flight and route planning including liaising with ATC in relation to routings and procedures.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of all required operational records – which includes competency checks, emergency and survival drill checks, crew currency and all necessary flight returns, ensuring all crews are properly licensed and authorised.
  • Liaison with the Irish Aviation Authority, and the Department of Transport as necessary, to ensure that the Company’s operations are in accordance with the authorisation issued to it.
  • Taking all practical steps to ensure that every flight is operated in accordance with the terms, conditions and limitations of the Company’s and aircraft owners relevant insurance policies.
  • The efficient and conscientious discharge of FOM duties in relation to the Company’s Accident Prevention and Quality Assurance Programmes.
  • The processing and follow-through as required of all reports filed by flight crew.
  • The review and evaluation of programmes for fleet/equipment standardisation and new aircraft acquisition.
  • Management of costs within departmental budgetary constraints.
