18th July 2007- Aer Arann is now the largest operator at Dublin Airport, outside of the ‘big two’. Colin Lewis,   Head of Sales & Marketing, Aer Arann announced ‘We are delighted that Aer Arann is now bigger than Air France, SAS, BA, Cityjet, Lufthansa, Delta, Iberia and Continental at Dublin Airport – we are now the third largest operator”

Security Alert in the UK - No Disruption to Aer Arann Flights

2nd July 2007- Following Saturday's terrorist incident at Glasgow Airport, additional security measures are in place at all UK airports.

Airports are operating at a heightened level of security and is important that people follow the directions of Police and airport officials. Dropping off and picking-up in front of all airports is severely restricted and passengers are warned that there may be significant delays in reaching airport terminals by car.
Please allow plenty of time for your journey as you may be delayed by these measures.

The following are the latest updates (2nd July 2007) available from the UK Airports Aer Arann fly to and from:

Birmingham International Airport – 2nd July 2007

Following the closure of the set-down roads at the front of the terminal buildings,  Birmingham International Airport (BIA) advises that people should use the short-stay car park for dropping off, or alternatively they should park in one of the main car parks.
It is still unclear what the situation is at Glasgow Airport; however as a precautionary measure, the Police have closed the roads at the front of BIA’s terminal until further notice.

The Airport continues to operate at a heightened level of security and is important that people follow the directions of Police and airport officials, and that they do not  cause congestion by blocking bus stops and other access roads.

Bristol Airport – 2nd July 2007

Passengers arriving at Bristol International Airport should be aware that the area in front of the terminal building is currently closed to vehicles (with the exception of the airport's own car park buses and the Flyer express coach service).  Please use the rapid pick up car park if you are dropping off passengers at the airport. Passenger's wishing to park at the airport should be aware that all on-site car parks are open and available to use as normal.

As always, we ask passengers to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to airport security staff or the police.

Cardiff Airport - 30 June 2007

If you are driving to Cardiff International Airport, you will find that there are enhanced security measures on the approach roads. Please allow plenty of time for your journey as you may be delayed by these measures. Security personnel will direct your vehicle when you arrive.

Aer Arann takes delivery of the first of 10 new aircraft
The first of Aer Arann’s $180 million investment in a new fleet of ATR aircraft landed for business in Dublin Airport this morning, Tuesday 29th May. The new ATR 72-500 offers Aer Arann customers new levels of comfort and efficiency. More importantly, several factors combine to make the new ATR aircraft an environmentally friendly aircraft: lower emissions of CO2 due to reduced fuel burn, 70% lower fuel consumption than a jet on similar routes, and sets new standards in the industry for quietness.

Garry Cullen, Managing Director, Aer Arann said “In these days of carbon footprint consciousness, Aer Arann decision to update and renew our fleet with ATR’s new generation 72-500 aircraft represents the optimal choice to give our customer the highest standards of on-board comfort, as well as the most environmentally sound. Our new fleet has a quiet, comfortable and spacious cabin with noise levels similar to jets, but is also the optimum choice for a friendly environment, even when compared with other forms of transport such as cars, buses or trains”.

FACT: Did you know that an ATR 72 uses as much fuel on a typical 370km sector as Boeing 747 uses in ten minutes of taxiing?
FACT: A turboprop such as an Aer Arann ATR-72-500 emits 20% less CO2 per passenger-km than newer jets.
FACT: On a 370km sector the fuel consumption per passenger of an ATR 72-500 is up to 15% lower than that of a typical European car.
FACT: The ATR gaseous emissions in terms of CO (carbon monoxide) are 15 times lower than those of a car and are comparable to those of a train.
FACT: Fuel consumption per passenger for a journey of 370 km for an ATR 72 is 16 litres, for a car 18 litres and 27 litres for a jet with 120 pax.
FACT: The ATR produces 3 times less Nox (Nitrous Oxides) than a car and 40% less than a train.
FACT: An ATR 72 uses up to 70% less fuel than a jet on a standard Aer Arann flight sector
FACT: Low levels of engine emissions are driven by low fuel consumption.

Garry Cullen, Managing Director stated “Aer Arann is committed to the principles of energy efficiency. Whilst the contribution of the aviation industry towards global warming is significantly less than other large polluters, our new ATR aircraft are recognised as the most fuel efficient aircraft in their category, emitting 20% less CO2 per passenger-km than newer jets. The ATR operates more efficiently than jet aircraft on short-haul routes – up to 70% less fuel is required than a 737 on a typical Aer Arann sector. On a 370km sector, the ATR 72 – 500 fuel consumption per passenger is up to 15% lower than a typical European car. The associated ATR gaseous emissions per pax in terms of CO are 15 times less than a car and comparable to a train”

“External noise and gaseous emissions regulatory levels are all met too with ample margin.” Cullen continued “In fact we are quiet neighbours and by flying at a relatively low altitude, we also leave the ozone layer unaffected. On a global level, ATR and its partners are heavily involved in a joint technology initiative for an aeronautics and air transport framework called ‘The Clean Sky Project’ which aims to conceive and validate technologies for a future generation ‘green regional’ aircraft”.

Turboprops v Turbojets

FACT: A turboprop engine is a jet engine attached to a propeller - the turbine at the back is turned by the hot gases, and this turns a shaft that drives the propeller.
FACT: Turboprops perform 25% of all intra-European flights
FACT: A 50 seater regional jet requires about 40% longer runway than ATR on a typical sector with a full passenger load

Cullen finished by stating that “Aer Arann are delighted and proud to launch the first of our ten new ATR today”

Aer Arann: New Arrival, New Aircraft, New Look

To celebrate the arrival of the new Aer Arann ATR 72-500 aircraft, a special one off colour scheme was commissioned by Aer Arann. Inspired by Celtic rings, or triskels, from the ancient monuments at Newgrange in County Meath. Clusters of triskels signify pulses to communicate the human and personal touch. The colour scheme incorporates refreshed and updated corporate colours. Silver and gold have been added into the palette to bring in a celebratory theme giving the aircraft a really distinctive look.

Garry Cullen , Managing Director, Aer Arann said: “Our new ATR 72-500 aircraft is a symbol of how far we have come as an organisation. The new one-off design reflects both who we are and where we are going, by reinterpreting the traditional patterns and given them a modern and playful twist”.

Cullen , continues: “To satisfy our most demanding customer expectations, our new fleet has a comfortable and spacious cabin where silence and comfort are similar to jets. Even if it’s just a short trip, Aer Arann knows that customers have come to expect the same level of space and seating comfort they would receive in a larger aircraft. Not only has the new aircraft been restyled with leather seating, there’s more leg-room, larger overhead bins, more windows than rows of seats and wider aisles. We already have a reputation for great customer service – in fact – 95% of our customers tells us that they would recommend us to someone else. Our new fleet will enhance our customer’s view of Aer Arann”.

Aer Arann: new aircraft, new routes, new era

ATR 72-500 aircraft

The ATR 72 500 fuel consumption per passenger is up to 15% lower than a typical European car on a 200mile sector. Gaseous emissions per passenger on the turboprop in terms of carbon monoxide are 15 times less than a car. Nitrous oxides emitted by the aircraft per passenger is 40% less than that of a train. To put it in local context, the new ATR 72 500 will use less fuel on the Dublin to Cork route than a jet aircraft will use taxiing for take-off.

On a global level, ATR and its partners are heavily involved in a joint technology initiative for an aeronautics and air transport framework called ‘The Clean Sky Project’ which aims to conceive and validate technologies for a future generation ‘green regional’ aircraft. This is in addition to ATR, and subsequently Aer Arann, being part of the larger objective of supporting the implementation of the Kyoto Protocols in Europe by reducing all emissions by 8% by 2010. (It’s worth noting that global aviation contributes 2.5% to global emissions).

However, bearing all that in mind, the eco-conscious passenger is also a seeker of comfort. Even if it’s just a short trip, passengers have come to expect the same level of space and seating comfort they would receive in a jet aircraft. Not only has the new aircraft been restyled with leather seating, there’s more leg-room, larger overhead bins, more windows than rows of seats and wider aisles, all contributing to what promises to be a more pleasurable in-flight experience.

New Design
To coincide with the arrival of the new aircraft, a special one off colour scheme was commissioned. Inspired by Celtic rings, or triskels, from the ancient monuments at Newgrange in County Meath, DesignCorp have reinterpreted the traditional patterns and given them a modern and playful twist. Clusters of triskels signify pulses to communicate the human and personal touch. The colour scheme incorporates refreshed and updated corporate colours. Silver and gold have been added into the palette to bring in a celebratory theme giving the aircraft a really distinctive look

Developments
Before the end of June this year, Aer Arann will also have launched 6 additional routes between Ireland, UK and France, moved to a new Headquarters in Dublin and opened a new hangar in Galway Airport, the birthplace of the airline.. Aer Arann are committed to continuing what they regard as essential flight experience advantages, such as later check-in times, no extra baggage charges and free newspapers.

The company’s excellence in customer service was recognised in 2006 by receiving the Palme D’Or European regional airline award for sustained excellence, reinforcing the airline’s belief that providing a progressive airline service doesn’t have to compromise the human touch.

Aer Arann says 'Small Wonder we're a BIG headache for Ryanair'

Aer Arann is keeping the record straight in response to Ryanair’s advertising campaign on the Dublin-Cork route. Says Colin Lewis, Head of Sales and Marketing for Aer Arann: ‘We think its right to keep the Irish travelling public informed’.

‘First of all, thanks to Ryanair for using Aer Arann's name on their advertising. This helps spread awareness of our brand, and we are delighted for their help in extending our ‘Seven Wonders’ marketing campaign’.

Secondly, comparing Aer Arann and Ryanair is like comparing apples and oranges, it’s a completely different customer experience. With fares from €25 one way, Aer Arann is offering the best customer experience on the route - with no baggage charges, assigned seating, online check-in, flexible tickets on day of travel, stress-free boarding and check in 30 minutes before flight. Our research has shown that these are very important elements to both the leisure and corporate customer, though Ryanair may disregard them.

Thirdly, Aer Arann operate 40% more flights than Ryanair every weekday between Dublin and Cork- almost 1200 more flights per year, so our commitment is unquestionable. All airlines have cancellations due to weather. The majority of our cancellations on the route in the last year were due to weather. Almost half were in one month - December 2006 - the same month when Ryanair cancelled dozens of flights across the UK and Ireland.

Fourthly, we believe that Ryanair should come clean on their pricing and answer the question: what’s the real cost the passenger will pay?

    With Aer Arann – ZERO!

Fifthly, we welcome competition, but with 14,000 customers a month choosing to fly Dublin-Cork with Aer Arann, clearly 14,000 people recognise value-for-money when they see it, over Ryanair stealth pricing.

Finally, next month Aer Arann takes delivery of the first of 10 new 72 seater ATR72-500 series aircraft. 50% of these aircraft will be in our fleet in the next 12 months. The deal, which is worth over €150 million, is the single largest aircraft investment by a private Irish passenger airline and the third largest in Irish aviation history. The first aircraft is scheduled to operate on the Dublin-Cork route.’

RAPIDLY GROWING REGIONAL AIRLINE UNVEILS RAFT OF NEW ROUTES

Aer Arann launches additional services from Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester and Newcastle.

Aer Arann, one of Europe’s fastest growing regional airlines, is launching a daily service from Birmingham to Waterford, South East of Ireland, on 14 May 2007.

The new flight will operate every day except Saturdays, and with a flight time of just one hour and twenty minutes, should prove popular with those planning business trips and leisure getaways to the West Coast. Fares start from £30 one way including taxes.

Also, launching on the 14 May is a service from Manchester to Sligo operating four days per week with fares from £30 one way including tax.

Both the Birmingham–Waterford and Manchester-Sligo services will come just two weeks after Aer Arann begins operating a twice-weekly Bristol to Nantes flight on 28 April. The airline also has plans to begin a Bristol to Galway service from 25 June operating four days a week.

Prices will start from £49 to Nantes, and £30 to Galway, including taxes.

Aer Arann will also launch a Newcastle to Galway service on the same day. The flight will operate four days per week with a flying time of one hour and twenty-five minutes. Fares on the route will start from £30 one way including tax.

The airline is also launching a Cardiff to Nantes service from 23 June, which will operate every Saturday with a flying time of less than three hours and prices from as little as £49 each way, including tax.

Commenting on the new services, Colin Lewis, Head of Sales and Marketing, Aer Arann says: “We are delighted to be further expanding our UK network with new services from Birmingham to Waterford, Bristol to Galway and Nantes, Cardiff to Nantes, Newcastle to Galway and Manchester to Sligo. All of these new destinations will prove popular with leisure travellers from the UK, Ireland and France, looking for new short-breaks ideas and summer getaways.

“We are particularly pleased to be announcing connections to Nantes, which is the sixth largest city in France and will play host to two of the Rugby World Cup matches being played by Wales in September 2007.”

Countdown to Sligo Manchester route begins
12th March 2007, Aer Arann recently announced that it will begin operating a new service from Sligo to Manchester on the 14th May 2007. The return flight will depart Manchester at 8.50am on Monday and Friday, 3.35pm on Thursday and 11.05pm on Sunday with a flight time of just eighty minutes. Fares on the route start from as low as €39 one way including tax.

Commenting on the service, Colin Lewis, Head of Sales and Marketing, Aer Arann said; “We are delighted with the feedback we have been receiving on the service, forward bookings are strong and we believe it will prove very popular with passengers in the Northwest region. Manchester is the largest city in the northwest of England, synonymous with football, but also great for shopping, art and entertainment. So, whether its to see Manchester United, avail of some retail therapy or attend a business meeting, getting to Manchester from Sligo has never been easier and with round trip fares from as low as €78 return including tax, it represents excellent value too.”

Ray McSharry, Chairman of Failte Ireland North West also welcomed the route "I want to congratulate Sligo Airport Authority for their success in achieving this new route to Manchester and to thank Aer Arann for operating the service. This clearly shows that Sligo Airport has the potential to expand it's services throughout the UK and we wish both Aer Arann and Sligo Airport every success. Hopefully this new route will be the first of many new destinations from Sligo Airport. Sligo Airport has a key role to play in the strategic development of tourism in Sligo and the North West. launches £29.99 seat sale on Dublin and London Luton
25th May 2006, Aer Arann, today announced that it will cease operating the Isle of Man to Liverpool service effective from Sunday, 18th June 2006. The airline also announced the launch of a new fare promotion on its Isle of Man to Dublin and London Luton routes with fares from just £29.99 each way including tax.

The decision to cease the Isle of Man to Liverpool service came as a result of the continual poor performance of the route and a decline in the overall Isle of Man to Liverpool air market. The resultant low load factors driven both by air and sea competition, have led to a situation where the route has proven uneconomic for Aer Arann, regrettably leading to the decision to end services.”

He added “Following the changes to the Liverpool route, we will be improving the timings of our Dublin – Isle of Man service to provide a day return capability for business passengers whilst also serving the tourism and leisure markets. It also represents one of the largest contracts awarded to ATR. This deal will allow Aer Arann to replace and supplement its existing fleet of 14 ATR42 and ATR72 aircraft bringing it to a fleet of 20 aircraft across its regional network by the end of 2009. The airline will take delivery of two aircraft in 2007, five in 2008 and three in 2009.

This expansion will enable us to develop our network further into the UK and mainland Europe and double the size of the airline over the next three years.”

Filippo Bagnato, ATR CEO, said “This new contract shows the confidence that Aer Arann has in the ATR aircraft and represents a new step forward for the increase in the turboprop market during the last two years. This new deal will allow ATR to consolidate its position in the European market”. He added “2006 is confirming the recovery of the turboprop market and the success of ATR aircraft. Since 1st January 2005, we have received orders for 136 new aircraft, some of them have yet to be announced”.

Since the beginning of the programme, ATR has sold 803 aircraft (398 ATR 42s and 405 ATR 72s) and delivered 692 aircraft (383 ATR 42-500 and 309 ATR 72-500). The ATR 72-500 is the latest development of the ATR 72 with a proven average dispatch reliability of more than 99.6%. This version shares the same power-plant, six-bladed propellers, the same interior design and soundproofing techniques of the ATR 42-500, thus offering the same excellent comfort and passenger appeal. Its standard capacity is of 68 seats. The ATR 72-500 has the lowest seat mile costs, recognised as a benchmark for the regional market. The increased power and aerodynamic refinements provide excellent take-off and landing performance. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) was increased by 300 kg, from 22,500 to 22,800 kg, end of 2004. All ATR models are compliant with noise regulations and have a large margin with regard to Chapter IV (ICAO) noise regulations, effective 1st January 2006.
