AER ARANN & AER LINGUS INAGURAL FLIGHTS TAKE TO THE SKIES FROM SHANNON
New Services Launched To Gatwick and Edinburgh

(Sunday, 27th March 2011) Shannonbusiness and tourism received a welcome boost today with the launch of two inaugural services from Shannon including a new Aer Lingus service to London Gatwick and an Aer Lingus Regional service, which is operated by Aer Arann, to Edinburgh. Today’s announcement further demonstrates the strength of the franchise agreement between the two airlines.
Departing at 9am, the first flight to take to the skies this morning was the Aer Lingus service to Gatwick and it was closely followed by a 9.30am Aer Lingus Regional departure to Edinburgh. To mark the celebrations, all passengers travelling on the first flights to Gatwick and Edinburgh received a complimentary breakfast reception in the departure area prior to boarding In addition, to officially acknowledge the significant occasion, Shannon Airport presented the captain of each inaugural flight with a beautiful customised piece of crystal.
Aer Lingus will fly its new early morning service to London Gatwick daily. Bookings can be made on www.aerlingus.com. One-way fares start from €24.99 including taxes and charges for travel from March to May 2011.
From today, the Aer Lingus Regional service from Shannon to Edinburgh will operate five days per week with fares starting at €29.99 one way including taxes. All flights are available for booking on www.aerlingus.com. This is the latest Aer Lingus Regional service to operate from Shannon in addition to the current Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Glasgow services currently available.
Welcoming the departure of the first flight, Andrew Kelly, Director of Corporate Affairs, Aer Arann said, “We are delighted to introduce our new service from Shannon to Edinburgh today. This is the fifth Aer Lingus Regional route from Shannon to launch in under 12 months which further demonstrates our commitment to the Shannon region.”
Commenting on the launch of the new routes, Aer Lingus Director of Communications Declan Kearney said, “The expansion of our route network at Shannon with daily services to London Gatwick and a new service to Edinburgh will enable us to better serve the UK market. The new daily service between Shannon and Gatwick provides Aer Lingus customers with the first early morning flight from London to the Shannon region. It will complement the existing London Heathrow service, which operates three times daily, broadening the choice for business and leisure travellers in and out of the Mid-West region.”
Welcoming the commencement of the routes, Shannon Airport Director Mary Considine said that they will be excellent additions to Shannon’s growing network of sustainable services. “We are looking forward to the uplift in traffic from our summer schedule and the new Edinburgh and Gatwick services will certainly play a strong role in that regard. Our goal is to provide a sustainable network of attractive services for passengers at Shannon Airport and today is another significant step in that direction,” she said.
Shannon’s Aer Lingus Regional Summer 2011 schedule also commenced today. It includes additional flights to Manchester on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The Birmingham service will now operate daily on a business-friendly slot, while the Shannon to Glasgow route is now operating three times per week.
