(Saturday, 14th May 2011) Today, thefirstAer Lingus Regional 2011 summer flights, operated by Aer Arann, took to the skies from Dublin and Cork to Rennes.

Providing a welcome boost for tourism in both Cork and Dublin, the Aer Lingus Regional service will operate weekly return flights every Saturday from Dublin and Cork to Rennes.

Additional Dublin to Rennes services will be added for the period 21st June to 30th August and will include a weekly Tuesday flight and a second flight every Saturday.

Commenting on today’s announcement Andrew Kelly, Director of Corporate Affairs, Aer Arann said: We’re delighted to offer this convenient link to France from both Cork and Dublin with our franchise partners Aer Lingus.

The new routes are very attractive for both markets, providing Irish tourists with access to attractions in Rennes and Northern France. Likewise, we are opening important connections encouraging Rennes tourists to visit Dublin and Cork as well as creating a doorway to the counties’ surrounding destinations,” he continued.

Aer Lingus Director of Communications Declan Kearney said, “Aer Lingus is delighted to build upon the strong business and tourism links that exist between Ireland and Brittany with these new services.”

Rennes is one of the major cities in the Brittany region of northwest France. Renowned for its architectural heritage, visitors will be spoiled for choice with so many attractions to choose from.  Historians will relish its historical castles and manors, while cultural enthusiasts can explore its many museums.
